Luminous

You’ve heard the term ‘light and shade’ when referring to how a dancer interprets the music. It’s the contrast of movement and calm. Fast and slow. Sharp and smooth. Loud and quiet. This moment right here, paradoxically, is the shade—a pause in the dance. The dancer is gathering her energy inwards, holding it around her like a cloak, her next move known only to herself. I say ‘paradoxically’ because in this moment of perfectly poised shade, she stands quite literally bathed in light.
