Queen of the harvest
Ah, to be the belle of the… celebration. Yeah, this isn’t a ball. Not like a proper regency affair with dance cards and chaperones and don’t stand up with the same gentleman more than twice, for heavens sake. Not like a fairytale ball either, the sort fit for Cinderella, Belle, or Giselle from Enchanted—no fairy godmothers or poofy dresses here. The Gathering at Castle Leoch is closer, if you remove all the politics.
This is, quite simply, a celebration. With lots of dancing. The villagers—young men in yellow doublets and pretty girls in flouncing skirts and flowers in their hair—have returned from the grape harvest. They gaily set a garland of flowers on Giselle’s head, crowning her Queen of the Harvest. And she dances to show everyone how happy and grateful she is. Basically, this is one big happy dance. I’m sure you can relate.
